Blessings and concerns

What a great blessing that we entered a new year, the year 2023! Also for us, as a foundation, it is a new year with new plans and new goals. If the Lord is willing, we are planning to build the first four classrooms of our new primary school. An enormous blessing! We are also planning to enlarge the health care projects and the agricultural projects. We are looking forward to helping more people and children in Kwanjana this year, togehter with volunteers, sponsors, committees and everyone who is involved with the For a Change foundation.

However, 2023 is not a year without concerns. Also in 2023 the brokenness of this world is very visible, there is a lot of suffering, pain and sadness. There is the grief of mothers who lost a child in the past year. There are concerns about the cholera-epidemic, which is the largest epidemic in 10 years, and over 400 people died. The government decided to close the schools in the cities, to avoid further spreading of the cholera. Kwanjana is just far enough away from Kwanjana to avoid the quarantaine. However, there are also people who are contaminated with the cholera in Kwanjana, also in the families of the sponsor children. This is a large concern! We decided to remain the school open. When the children do not come to school, there is still a chance that they get contaminated in their home environments. And above this, there is no food at home. There is a big famine. The new corn is planted, but the corn of the last harvest is gone already, so most people have almost nothing to eat. When the children come to school, we are sure that they receive two nutricious meals a day, which also improves the immune system of the children that visit the centre. But especially, we pray that the Lord will bless us and keep us and that the opening of our school and centre will nog lead to extra contaminations. The Lord is standing above all, also in 2023!
