Connection

21 June 2019

After arriving in Malawi some weeks ago, we are used again to the African life. Go to bed early, get up early. We left wearing T-shirts, now we need sweaters. While there are tropical temperatures in the Netherlands, in Malawi, it is cold, especially in the mornings and evenings. But when the sun gets up, it gets pleasant outside soon.

After visiting the Netherlands for several weeks, and told about our work and the sponsor children by means of presentation, it is good to see the work and to get back to work here.

A lot has happend during the last couple of weeks in Malawi. Especially at the nursery school, a lot has changed. The children wear lovely uniforms, there are tables and chairs in the classroom, the walls look cheerful and when we participate in the class for a while, we see and hear how much the children have learned during the past few weeks. Without problems, they memorize the alphabet, the days of the week, and the learned how to count. It is so good to see how those children develop. And it is so good to see the connection between Malawi and the Netherlands.

We felt the involvement in the Netherlands during activities and presentation, we felt a warm heart for the work that we may do in Malawi and a growing amount of sponsors, so more children can go to school. And in Malawi, we can see the impact of this. It makes such a difference in the life of a child to be able to go to school and to receive nourishing food. It is wonderful to see a group of nursery school children run towards us en hug us when we arrive. The work is so beautiful and it is so good to feel the connection with the Netherlands.

Also the connection between the volunteers in Malawi and the volunteers in the Netherlands, the connection is growing, which is good to see. If we give all volunteers in Malawi a postcard and small present from the volunteers from the Netherlands, their happiness is visible and hearible. A postcard shows the appreciation towards them and the volunteers feel appreciated. They cannot wait to send a postcard back to the Neterlands. Good to see how people from Malawi and the Netherlands are connected in the fight against poverty!
