Food relief aid
6 March 2020
In Malawi, most people especially in villages have no sufficient food as compared to previous years. 80% of the population live in villages and depends on subsistence type of farming due to poverty. Most farmers cannot afford farm machinery to intensity their farming practices. As such, For A Change, a Christian and Non profit making organization, visited Kwanjana Village in Thyolo district, south Malawi where they run a nursery school and offer day care services to the infants. This is an area which was not left out by the effects of cyclone Idai last year. The cyclone left many people in the area homeless and poor harvest due to flooding.
As such For A Change, distributed food aid worth MK3, 676, 400 to the elderly, orphans, women who are breastfeeding and women who are pregnant. In total about 372 households benefited from the food aid. The function was spiced up by the Bible preaching by one of the Board of trustees, Mr Mart Kot. He preached the message from the book of Mark 4:35 where the disciples where terrified by the storm and had to wake Jesus up from sleep. When Jesus woke up, He spoke to the storm and it was silenced. In relating the message to the occasion, Kot told the villagers that the people have to do the same and that God hear their voices when they call Him. He also encouraged people to love one another and discouraged witchcraft which he says that was an idea from the devil.
Most villagers went home happy and satisfied.
For A Change manifest, the works of the apostles through preaching the word, helping in community development work, food relief programs, day care to the infants, education sector and promotes talents among the youth through talent variety shows among others. This is mostly done in Kwanjana village.
