Happiness in Kwanjana!
7 September 2020
Today was a very special day! There was a party in Kwanjana. Finally, after 5 long months, our children were back again! We missed them a lot. Their joyful voices, their happy faces, the nice stories they tell. Everything is different when the children are present. They are the sunshine of our Centre.
The new kitchen is wonderful, but it only is really wonderful now that it's used for the children. The running water is a blessing, especially now when 60 children can wash their hands. And we were not the only ones that were happy, the children were very happy as well. They missed us too. And they also missed the playground, the porridge in the morning, the milk at 10 a.m., the chicken at 12 a.m., and they missed each other.
When we arrived early in the morning, all the children were already waiting for us. Everyone was present, bright and early. And that means something in Malawi, were people are used to arrive late. The mothers were present as well. They were very pleased with the new kitchen, which makes the cooking a lot easier. They were happy with their skirts and matching headscarve, which looks really pretty. They are happy that they can just turn on the tap when they need water.
When you are looking at this from a distance and realize what is going on, your heart is filled with joy. It is a blessing to be able to do this work. Step by step, day by day, we make a difference in the live of those children. We are grateful to the Lord that we already found so many sponsors for the children. Because for the children, it is so great to be with For a Change. At home, none of the children gets breakfast. They do not know teatime. And Christmas is the only time of the year they eat chicken. And not all of the children receive love at home. And reading, writing and playing with toys? That is something they cannot do at home.
From next week monday, if the Lord is willing, we are opening the school again and we start teaching again, in smal groups. But we are very happy to see our For a Change children every day. Because they really make a difference!
