To reach a hand

This is Gribeter. She visits the nursery school of For a Change and she feels very sad. This is because the president said that all schools must be closed for the 3 upcoming weeks. She will miss school so much! It's a good thing that For a Change will reach out support packages.

The number of active covid-19 cases in Malawi increase rapidly. The president declared the 'state of emergency'. Not ever before since the start of the pandamic, there were so many new cases of covid per day. On Sunday evening, the president announced new prescriptions. And one of those rules is that all the schools must be closed for 3 weeks. It was such a disappointment to us when we heard this. We just restarted the school, we were doing so great, the teachers and the children enjoy each day, all four fieldworkers were in Malawi again and we were looking forward to start our work together again. But the Lord reigns!

It is not easy for the people in Malawi. January and Februari are the most difficult months each year. The food supply is shrinking and the harvest is still some months away. Finding work gets harder with the new covid-rules. And hunger strikes again...All people are obligated to wear a face mask. When you do not obey, you will be fined. But it is hard to decide between a face mask and a meal...

Due to the regulations, our sponsor children cannot come to the centre anymore to receive food. Therefore, we want to quickly act and help the people in Kwanjana. We want to give a covid support package to the people. In the first place, to our sponsoring children. But when there are enough gifts, we also want to give packages to the most vulnerable people in Kwanjana, like elderly or sick people and pregnant women. For €25, we can help one family by providing a support package. A package includes: food for 3(!) weeks, hand-hygiene and face masks. Are you also helping a family in Kwanjana?
