A volunteer speeks
20 May 2020
I was asked to write a blog about the volunteer work for the For a Change Foundation. My name is Anne Monster, 30 years of age, living in Oud-Beijerland (The Netherlands) and working as a nurse in the Ikazia Hospital in Rotterdam.
Long before For a Change was founded, I knew about the dream that Annemarie had and somewhat later, I also learned to know Marianne. Two enthousiastic, passionate women with a lot of passion for the Malawian people and with a big hart for their neighbours. Later, two fantastic men joined them, being just as enthousiastic and passionately. I saw how they raised the For a Change Foundation from scratch and were able to make a difference for the Malawian people. I think it is wonderful to see their work and I have a lot of respect for the way in which For a Change works.
When I was asked for volunteer work with the foundation, I did not need much time to think it over. Because most of the volunteers live in the province of Zeeland, it was a struggle to find out which task would fit me the most. Also because of my irregular work schemes at the hospital, we had to look for a practical and efficient task for me (just as the Dutch people usually do ;-)).
In the mean time, we figured out those things and I am glad to arrange the sponsor post for the foundation. The first letters were send just some weeks ago. It included foto's of the sponsor children, in a beautiful picture frame full of glitters. 30 smiling faces were looking to me. That made me realise how important it is that people, like the people from For a Change, keep rising for right and justice in the workd. That there are people who are touched by the poverty they see. That there are peopel who rise and go in the knowledge that the Lord will provide for them and will lead their way. That there are people that make a difference and who not let themselves be discouraged by the circumstances.
At this moment, there is a lot of fear and uncertainty in The Netherlands. Across the entire world, there is fear and uncertainty because of the Corona virus. People get ill, economies fail, all the certainties we had proved to be uncertain. And still...we know: our faithful God makes plans that cannot fail. Not in Malawi and not in The Netherlands.
I hope that I will be able to be a part of the wonderful foundation for a long time and to be able to send a lot of mail to the Malawian children and to you.
