We were there for you
30 April 2020
Corona virus is all over the news, all over the countries and all in our minds. No internationals calls are taking place without asking the status of the corona virus. To be honest we have been affected by this pandemic and our work as well. This is a difficult time and we don’t know if the virus will end or it will move in a circle. But we just need to look to the Most High and stay positive as the earth is cleaning up itself we also should stay healthy, like eating healthy and do more exercises.
By the way our eyes and our thoughts are still with the people in Kwanjana. We do miss them and we are looking forward to reopen our centre. But as of now we rely on working with the Action Committee being them our eyes and indeed they are our eyes.
The past weeks we were called by one of our Action Committee members, reporting that there is an incident. There was a lady who came to them asking for help. She said she has a baby whose mother kissed mama earth. After delivering a baby girl the woman went very happy home. After two and half month the woman started having severe headaches and this continued. She couldn’t bare the pain but was crying every time, she was so discomforted with the pain. Relatives knew that this is not just a normal headache and they took her to the local hospital. There they diagnosed that she was having meningitis in the neck. She stayed at the hospital for one and half week and passed away leaving the baby and 3 other children.
Desire is the baby’s name, she is left alone now, but lucky enough her aunt is willing to take care of all the children. The father of Desire left already before she was born and people don’t know where he is. The aunt is also having two children that is making the her family to rise to six children. This brings a challenge to her to buy milk for Desire. The only alternative she has is to buy small milk sachets which people use for tea. She is not able to manage enough of these, because the baby needs to drink often and the milk she is feeding her is not good for the baby. It was so touching and it reminded me when my mother died and left my little sister Jacqueline without milk. It is a terrible situation and a lot of babies have lost their lives in Malawi because of this.
I just feel happy that I can be part of the team that is helping the needy in our country. This is wealth to thank GOD for. As a team we decided to take the girl into the program where she can get the normal baby milk and clothes. We asked for sponsorship and to our surprise there were six people willing to sponsor her. This just melted my heart, what a beautiful moment for us field workers and for the family of Desire.
We hope that one day Desire will write a blog here explaining how projects are going in Malawi for the foundation For a Change. Stay safe during this Corona virus pandemic.
