A volunteer speeks
2 June 2020
We are Sjacco and Marinda and we were asked to write a blog for the website of For a Change. First, a short introduction.
“I am Sjacco Verschuure, 27 years of age. I work as 3D-modellor with the Cerfix Constructions Company. Usually, I draw wooden constructions, floors and roofs in 3D, so those elements can be made in a factory. Favourite things to do are playing darts and photography.”
“My name is Marinda Verschuure-Meeuwsen and I am aged 23. I work as district nurse and palliative nurse. My hobbies are scrapbooking and making cards, being outside and enjoying a good book.”
In August, we cellebrate our third wedding anniversary and we expect our first child in October.
From the start of the foundation, we are volunteers. This is because Marinda is a sister of Marianne, and we were asked to be volunteers. We both liked that. Usally, we do not think about our easy life in The Netherlands. We usually take things for granted, although the worldwide corona pandemic tells us otherwise.
We did not visit Malawi yet, but every time we see the photo’s and movies, we think about visiting. Besides this, we have a sponsor child in Malawi. It is very nice to get in contact twice a year and share pictures. In this way, we can share from our welfare. Also, we helped organizing different activities during the past few years. The turnout and the collected money were reasons to be thankful for.
In May 2019, we organised a darts match. Within 3 months, we arranged this and we had a lot of fun. We wanted to organise the match again this year, on May 16th. However, because of the corona, this was not possible. We hope it is possible again on September, 19th, 2020. It is so nice to organise activities with different people!
