Lights of hope
20 March 2020
What to write a blog about today? Not about the Corona virus. All the newsletters write about Corona and besides, fortunately the virus is not in Malawi yet. We did notify the people of Kwanjana about the virus. Most people never heard of it. We cannot imagine this.
Maybe I can write about the generosity of the Malawian people. About how my colleague-husband almost every time returns home with something else. One time it is a pumkin, the next time fresh corn, then egg plants, and another time tomatos. It makes me silent. It is about sharing the first products of the harvest with us, after a time of famine. For the Malawian people, this is a way to share their gratitude with us and show us how they appreciate the work For a Change does and to show how happy they are with the development of Kwanjana.
I can also write about the crops, that are being harvested already by some people in Kwanjana. And how we try to teach them not to sell all of their crops, because then they will be hungry in December. And even if they want to sell, it is better to wait until the end of the year, because the prices will be much better by then. And that the Action Committee helps us to share this message with the people.
No, I think I will write about last Saturday. All the children from the sponsor program were examined by professional physicians. The physicians did not charge us anything. Also in Malawi, people are willing to use their talents for the need of people who need it. I will write about the one doctor, who just came out of his night shift, but wanted to come to Malawi to help the children. A lot of children gained weight, although there was a famine. That is something to be grateful for. But there are also some children whose condition is more critical and we will do our very best to give them the best help we can give hem.
I could also write about the fine relationship our teacher and teachers assistant have with the children. How happy the children are when they arrive. And about the great team meetings we have with each other. But will I be able to fill an entire blog with stories like this?
Uhoh, the space in this blog decreases rapidly. And I have not written anything special yet. I think I will leave it this way. I was able to share some special lights of hope with you. Lights that make our work so special. That give us energy to continue, to defeat poverty step by step. Together with all of you. Because you are so special to us. You are the ones that make our work possible. I could fill an entire blog about that. But I will keep that for next time. I already know what to write about then ;-).
