Teaching at For a Change
24 January 2024
In this blog post I want to let you know more about my experience as a remedial class teacher at For a Change Organization.
My work has been so nice when it comes to teaching class 5 and 6 learners. This happens because the foundation has plenty of teaching and learning materials which are vital because learners learn through interacting with real objects rather than telling them. My learners are also fully involved through varying teaching and learning methods. Learners also take lunch before learning which makes them to be alert and not get tired of learning. I have only one learner with writing and reading problems, but I am doing everything possible so as for him to be in the same line with his friends. Most of the learners now had a good progress as compared to last term, they are now taking good positions at Ntundama Primary School (local primary school). Once their school has been opened at For a Change, there will be a greater competition among them and flying colours will be seen in them.
Secondly, at For a Change organization I have learnt a number of things. For example I have learnt to interact with some learners with diverse needs since the school has a number of them. I have also learnt how I can interact with workmates since we can chat and share one’s views and ideas and finally I have also learnt how I can resolve conflicts amongst individuals. For example a teacher with learners parents. It is a great experience for me.
In addition to the mentioned points, during my working period at For a Change there are plenty of good things that I have encountered for example, there were trips which were organized by the directors, whereby learners had their educational visit to MBC studio and the Malawi Museum. Learners enjoyed the trip including I myself, since it is my first time that I had a visit to those places and this is also rare amongst schools which are around here. We also had a trip to Mangochi whereby I enjoyed in advance, and it was my first time to visit Mangochi. It was one of the beautiful moments in my life that I will remember forever. The other good thing is that there is always lunch which is taken before beginning of the afternoon classes. This makes me to teach with confidence and with energy. The other good thing that I have noticed is that during month ends there are monthly closings which are organized in order to praise God, these help many of us to remember that there is God and He is a Provider of each and everything and He is the One to guide all of us.
I also love that we live peacefully with the directors, they show love to me and to all the people that they work with. And they consider the challenges that are faced by the workers.
I am so grateful that I am one of the teachers here and it is my desire to work hard and bring a change in the organization and in the life of these children. It’s my prayer that the One and only God blesses this organization at all times, so that the great work can continue.
