A drop in the ocean
7 February 2019
About 4 years ago, we came up with the name 'For a Change'. Logo's were designed, core values were formulated, a Facebook page was created. To make a long story short: the For a Change Foundation started. Four heads were filled with dreams, plans and ideas.
4 years have passed. In the hospital in Ngulundi, patiƫnts lie on matrasses that were donated by For a Change. It is a drop in the ocean. But for a couple of patiƫnts, it makes a big difference.
In Kwanjana, trucks, cars and bikes can cross a bridge. The building of a bridge was a project of For a Change. It is a very small change when looking at the huge infrastructure problems in Malawi. But it is a big difference for the people in and around Kwanjana.
There is a new nursery school in Kwanjana. 18 little children come to school every day. 2 other children will start in September, they were a little bit too young to join the class already. 18 children from millions that still live in poverty. It seems like a hopeless situation, but for those 18 children, it is a world of difference.
Every day from monday to friday, a For a Change-car drives towards Kwanjana. Volunteers are waiting already at the Meeting & Knowledge Centre. Some children are present very early already. Some others come somewhat later. While the mothers start cooking the porridge together with volunteers from the village. Meanwhile, inside the school the children listen to a Biblical story. They listen carefully. After that, they do games together, learn songs, learn how to count and play together.
At least once a week, the team joins together and talks about further steps. How can we help better? How can we invest more in those children?
Step by step we continue. Step by step, we try to make a difference. We pray for help and guidance.
Together, we can defeat poverty step by step. It seems like a drop in the ocean, but for the one person, it can be a world of difference.
